The Missouri Pacific had, by far, the most extensive operations of any Class One road in the St. Louis/East St. Louis area. Three mainlines and numerous branches connected the outside world to St. Louis via the Mopac. Early exposure to the Mopac from Jim's home in South St. Louis allowed him to learn its operations and equipment and made shooting different aspects of the Mopac an easy pastime.

Here, looking east from the Grand Avenue Viaduct on May 31, 1955 a westbound Mopac freight is getting underway with FPA2 #364 on the point. The tracks to the left of the locomotive are the property of Wabash, Frisco, and the TRRA Terminal District. (Jim Ozment)
