In the Summer of 1951 the Milwaukee Road got six A-B-A sets of Fairbanks-Morse CFA16-4 "C-Liner" freight units. They were a common sight at Bensenville, working both north to Milwaukee and south into Indiana on the Chicago, Terre Haute & Southeastern. On October 17, 1964, the 23C and a mate and SD7 535 were on the freight line alongside York Road approaching the west end of Bensenville Yard.
