A mile west of Coxo an eastbound train with the 480 is curving around a pond created by melting snow. The track crosses a dirt road before crossing state route 17, where the photographer has stationed himself for this shot. Even the dirt road warrants crossbucks. Snow can still be found in patches on the hillsides on June 2, 1958. On the side of the 480's cab is the ever-present canvas water bag. Water seeping through the bag evaporates and keeps the contents cool. (Robert F. Collins photo, Morning Sun Books Collection)
