THE FIRST "STANDARD" passenger units acquired by the CB&Q, C&S and FW&D were eleven E5 cabs and five boosters between February 1940 and June 1941. These unique units had the slant nose used on the 567-powered 2000-h.p. E3s but were the only ones clad in stainless steel. The 9912-A, no longer wearing its name Silver Meteor, was westbound on the Morning Zephyr at Oregon, Ill., in December 1964.
