The New Haven shop forces began repainting locomotives quickly, as evidenced in this view taken on April 13, 1969. The new paint did not flatter the FL9s, or for that matter, any of the other New Haven locomotives that were at one time painted in the popular McGinnis/Herbert Matter scheme.
